end of an era '.. a young man from bretforton arrived whose family were to remain as blacksmiths in badsey for the next hundred years. it was on 14th february 1909 that the caswell family began their long association with badsey and with the premises in chapel street, which are so well-known to people all over the vale. ' so wrote maureen spinks in her chapter on 'the village blacksmith' in the badsey society book aldington and badsey - villages in the vale (available at the spar shop, or online at www.badseysociety.uk) three generations of caswell's have plied their trade in the smithy in chapel street which is now up for sale, along with the neighbouring house.
